CLARKSBURG, Virginia (WBOY) — 88 years ago on this day in Richmond, Virginia, the first canned beer went on sale. In honor of National Beer Can Appreciation Day, we’ve picked some of the coolest cans we’ve seen on Brews News so far.

Alpenglow, Big Timber Brewing
The first of these is Big Timber’s Alpenglow Gose, a sour fruit of cranberry, orange peel, rosemary, salt and coriander. It is part of Big Timber’s rotating sour series and is currently available in cans and draft at Big Timber Taproom.
Blob, Chestnut Brew Works

Next is Blob from Chestnut Brew Works. This is a blueberry blonde ale for fruit lovers who don’t like acidity. This beer debuted in his 2022 with stunning artwork by Brian Pickens. Unfortunately, this beer is not currently available at the CBW Taproom, but you can still find it at some restaurants, such as Mountain State He Brewing locations in Morgantown.
Famous Monster, High Ground Brewing

This Märzen was widely available during the fall season, but if you were thinking of trying it today, you probably missed your chance. This beer has a clean, dry finish with hints of caramel, biscuits, coffee and bitter his chocolate. Can art by Adam E. Mathews, who has some absolutely amazing designs that you can see on High Ground Brewing’s Instagram page.
Baby Doge Session IPA, High Ground Brewing

Another is High Ground Brewing cans, but this time artwork from Wonderfully Weird Designs (High Ground really knows how to pick!). This Babydog-inspired design launched last year and was WWD’s first can design, according to its Instagram page.
Cerulean Warbler, Freefolk Brewery
OK, this isn’t a picture of a can, but one of the cans on their Instagram page has the same art, so it counts. This Blueberry Lavender Farmhouse Ale is part of a series focused on endangered species in the region, with a portion of the proceeds going to local organizations working to protect various species. .
If any of these beers sound interesting, keep in mind that the wboy.com-only Brews News page keeps you up to date on all local seasonal beers released throughout the year. Please give me.
