Four wanted men were arrested in two separate shootouts in Delhi’s Mehrauli and Nangloi areas on Saturday morning. According to police, all four sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and were taken to the hospital.

In the first incident, local police in Mehrauli got a tip-off about the movement of a man allegedly involved in illegal arms supply.

“Acting swiftly, a police team placed a picket at the Lado Sarai Shamshan Ghat Road. Around 3.15 am, the suspect attempted to flee and opened fire at the police party. In self-defence, the police retaliated, resulting in the apprehension of the assailant, who sustained an injury to his leg,” a police officer said.

The accused has been identified as Kanishk alias Koku alias Vishal (27) of Madangir in Delhi. Two pistols, loaded magazines, and four empty cartridges were recovered from his possession, the officer said.

A case under relevant sections has been registered and investigation is in progress.

In another incident, three men — allegedly involved in cases of robbery and kidnapping — were injured in a shootout after they opened fire at a police team in Nangloi.

According to another police officer, early on Saturday morning, the accused — Firoz, Kamraan and Asif — were travelling on a bike at Nangloi Railway Crossing when they were stopped by a local police team in the area.

The accused allegedly opened fire at the police party. The police retaliated, and the trio sustained injuries to their legs.

The officer said it is suspected one of their associates managed to escape during the firing. The injured have been admitted to the hospital from where they will be taken into custody, police said.

The accused were previously involved in a case of kidnapping for ransom and other crimes, including robberies. On October 22, they were allegedly involved in firing at a police patrolling party in Kirari.
