‘Mentally harassed by teachers, principal’: Class 10 boy jumps to death from Delhi metro station; suicide note recovered

NEW DELHI: A day after a Class 10 student from a private school in central Delhi died by suicide by jumping from the Rajendra Place Metro Station, police registered a case of abetment to suicide on Wednesday based on a complaint submitted by the student’s father. The father named a school teacher and three other teachers for harassing his son. He told the police that the family lives in Rajendra Nagar and works in the jewellery business. He stated that his 16-year-old son repeatedly complained that several teachers—including the school principal, coordinator, and two other staff members—often scolded him over minor issues and allegedly subjected him to mental harassment.

A suicide note was also recovered from the spot, in which the boy apologised to his parents and expressed a wish for his body to be donated to someone in need. He further mentioned that the school teachers harassed him, stating that his last wish was for action to be taken against them, as he did not want any other child to experience what he went through. The father said that he and his wife approached the teachers and the principal multiple times, but the situation did not improve.“On November 18, while the father was in Kolhapur for his mother’s medical treatment, his son left for school at 7:15 am as usual. Around 2:45 pm, he received a call informing him that his son fell from Rajendra Place Metro Station and was taken to hospital. The family later learned that the boy was declared dead on arrival,” police said.Police said that a suicide note was recovered from the student’s school bag. In the note, the boy mentioned being troubled by certain teachers and requested that action be taken. He also asked that his organs be donated if possible. The father further added that his son’s classmates told him that for the past four days, one of the teachers threatened his son, saying she would call his parents and issue a Transfer Certificate (TC). They said that the teacher even pushed his son. On November 18, during the class, when his son slipped and fell, the teacher insulted him in front of everyone and said he was overacting and creating drama. She scolded him so much that he began to cry. After that, the teacher said that no matter how much he cried, she did not care. The principal was also present at the time, but she did not say anything.
