YouTube outlined a new set of AI tools, partnerships, and learning initiatives at its annual Impact Summit in New Delhi on Monday. The platform’s executives said it would focus on strengthening India’s knowledge and creative sectors through AI-driven features and institutional collaborations.

Government officials attending the summit said the new measures aligned with national goals around information access, digital safety, and economic participation. Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi said cooperation between public institutions and platforms could improve access to reliable information and support digital skills.

A central focus of the announcements was YouTube’s effort to support India’s knowledge economy, citing internal data showing that 98 per cent of users in India use the platform to gather information. To expand access to training in creative industries, YouTube introduced a partnership with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), Mumbai.

The collaboration will include knowledge-sharing sessions with industry experts; a Create with AI funding programme for students; artist projects in animation, gaming, and film; and support for the launch of the IICT’s official YouTube channel.

IICT CEO Vishwas Deoskar said the initiative would help students gain direct exposure to technology used in global creative fields. He noted that AI would influence future production methods in animation, gaming, and related industries.

YouTube also announced a partnership with the College of Nursing at AIIMS to distribute professional nursing courses covering subjects such as wound care and hospital infection control. These materials will be made available to nursing students and nurses across India. Dr Latha Venkatesan, principal of the college, said the move would extend access to training that traditionally remained on campus.

Among the new features introduced was a conversational AI tool that allows viewers to ask questions within the video player and receive immediate answers. The tool is available in English, with Hindi support planned.

YouTube also expanded measures aimed at improving access to credible health information and supporting digital well-being. The platform will increase the availability of First Aid shelves, ensuring that search results show reliable, easy-to-understand videos on more health topics. In addition, YouTube is introducing an option for users to set daily limits on scrolling in the Shorts feed, building on existing features intended to help users, including those under 18, manage viewing habits.

In the creative tools category, YouTube announced the wider rollout of Edit with AI in the YouTube Create app. The tool produces a first draft from raw footage, reducing manual editing time. The company also began an open beta of its likeness detection system for members of the YouTube Partner Program. The feature alerts creators to AI-generated or altered videos using their facial likeness and allows them to request removal.
