The southwest monsoon is all set to withdraw from more parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

During the same period, the IMD said, ” Conditions are becoming favourbale for monsoon retreat from some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh.”

The line of the monsoon withdrawal continues to pass through Bhatinda, Fatehabad, Pilani, Ajmer, Deesa and Bhuj. This year, the monsoon withdrawal had commenced early by three days from normal on September 14.

In association with the monsoon withdrawal, east Rajasthan and Gujarat on Sunday recorded very heavy rainfall. Some of the wettest areas here were Nandod (120mm), Rajpipala and Bodeli (100mm, each), Bhopalsagar (90mm) and Bari Sadri (70mm). Gujarat will continue to experience heavy rain till September 23, the IMD warned. Konkan and Marathwada in Marathwada and Goa, too, will receive heavy rain spells till September 27.

In the meantime, the Bay of Bengal is turning active and is expected to give rise to two low pressure areas during this week. On Saturday, a cyclonic circulation had developed over North Andaman Sea-Myanmar.

” Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours,” IMD said on Sunday. In view of the development of the low pressure area and its track, the Met department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain over east coast, particularly Odisha.

By September 25, there is expected the formation of another low pressure area in the north Bay of Bengal. As this system is predicted to intensify into a depression and its track to pass through coastal Odisha-Andhra Pradesh, these coastal states are bracing for intense rainfall later this week.

” This system is likely to cross south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh on September 27,” the IMD said.
