NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said the party “strongly opposes” the Election Commission’s move to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Kerala, calling it “an affront to democracy” and “a way of cheating in elections.“Speaking to reporters during her two-day visit to her constituency, Priyanka said the “The Election Commission is planning to carry out SIR of voter lists in many states, including Kerala, and we are strongly opposed to it.”Also read | SIR 2.0: Special voter roll revision to begin in 12 states, including UP, Bengal – see full list
Calling the exercise “the only way of committing fraud and cheating in the elections,” the Wayanad MP alleged that the SIR carried out in Bihar, “undermines democracy.”“We have seen that before. We will continue to fight against it everywhere,” she added.Priyanka arrived at Karipur airport in the morning and travelled to Wayanad by road.
