BMW Accident Case: Delhi Court Grants Bail to Gaganpreet Kaur

BMW crash accused Gaganpreet Kaur

NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Patiala court on Saturday granted bail to accused Gaganpreet Kaur in connection BMW accident case which killed Navjot Singh, deputy secretary in the ministry of finance on September 14.The court granted bail to Kaur on a bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of the same amount. The court also directed Gaganpreet Kaur to surrender her passport.Before pronouncing the bail order, the Court said that an ambulance reached there within seconds, and it remained there for 30 seconds. But did not take the injured to the hospital. Even though they did not have any emergency assignment and were going to the Army Base Hospital, the nearest hospital.

“What should be done with this ambulance?. Are they not accused of the offence of death due to a negligent act?” the court asked the police.“The best-equipped vehicle was present there. The ambulance left the spot within 30 seconds. Is it not the medical negligence?” it added.The court said that the Ambulance with paramedic was duty-bound to take the injured to the hospital.Also read: High-speed crash in Gurgaon: 5 killed, 1 injured as Thar flips after hitting divider near Jharsa ChowkThe court, however, observed that paramedics inquired of the bystanders whether anybody wanted help.Delhi Police arrested Kaur who drove the BMW that fatally struck senior finance ministry officer Navjot Singh in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan area.Singh, 52, a deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs and resident of Hari Nagar, died in the crash on Sunday afternoon. His wife, Sandeep, who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries and remains under treatment.In her statement to police, Sandeep alleged that after the collision she repeatedly pleaded with Gaganpreet to take them to the nearest hospital, as her husband was unconscious and required urgent first aid. Instead, the BMW occupants allegedly took them to a small hospital in GTB Nagar — around 22 km away — where the couple was kept waiting outside on a stretcher. She claimed her appeals for immediate care at closer hospitals such as AIIMS or the Army Base Hospital were ignored.Sandeep also identified the driver as Gaganpreet Kaur and recalled that the blue BMW, bearing registration number 0008, had overturned on the road during the incident.
