"I don't think so" - Luka Doncic has no plans to follow the footsteps of his fellow Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James

LeBron James will be back with Los Angeles Lakers camp for his 23rd season in the NBA, playing the final year of his current contract with the team. Luka Doncic, on the other hand, will be looking to play his first full season with the Lakers, after getting traded to the team from the Dallas Mavericks halfway through the last season, back in February. Both star players seem to have gelled well, as fans could see during the last few months of the 2024-25 season. And now, we get to see them back at it, as the upcoming season gears up for its debut next month. Doncic, though, does not think he will be following his superstar teammate on a certain aspect of his career.

Luka Doncic is not looking to play as long as LeBron James

LeBron James turns 41 this December, and will be playing his 23rd season in the NBA. He will be joining his Los Angeles Lakers teammates, including Luka Doncic, to pursue a successful season. Unlike James, Doncic is relatively new to the league, set to start his 8th season in the NBA, in his 11th year as a professional basketball player. And while he wants to leave a lasting legacy, he has no plans to keep playing for as long as James has.When asked if he envisions himself playing at age 41, Doncic said, “No. I don’t think so.” He has had a good summer at the EuroBasket, taking his team Slovenia to the quarterfinals, before losing to the champions, Germany. Now he will be looking to make his grand entrance at the league for the next season, and go for “a fresh start” to begin his journey with the Lakers anew.In other news, Doncic recently received a great deal of appreciation from James. In an attempt to dominate the 2025–26 season, a new core has been assembled around the pair as they get ready for their first full season together.

Luka Doncic has interest in owning a sports team

It doesn’t have to be basketball, per se, but Luka Doncic has shown interest in someday owning a sports team, or at least owning a part of it. While he does not want to follow LeBron James in playing for as long as he has, the King has influenced him in other ways – specifically, Bron’s business mind. And he looks forward to learning from his teammate on the same. “That’s something I’m very, very interested in,” he said, talking about someday owning a sports team. But for now, her concentration is on winning championships – something both him and James would be looking to achieve this season. Doncic, because he wants to prove his mettle, and James, because this could possibly be his last year in the NBA as a professional basketball player.
