IIT Mandi 13th Convocation: Over 600 students conferred degrees, Riya Arora gets Prez’s gold medal

The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) on November 13, held its convocation. In its 13th edition this year, IIT Mandi awarded a total of 604 students with degrees. These included 71 PhD, 245 postgraduates, and 288 BTech degrees. Among these, over 25 per cent are women graduates.

The event was graced by Prof Shekhar C. Mande, Former Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), as the chief guest, who delivered the Convocation Address. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of innovation for sustainable development and encouraged graduates to lead with empathy and integrity in addressing national goals and global challenges.

This year’s convocation, an IIT Mandi statement said, was significant as it witnessed the graduation of the first batches from the newly introduced BTech–MTech Dual Degree, BTech with Second Major, and BTech with specialisation programmes.

For the first time, the institute also conferred degrees in BTech with specialisation in entrepreneurship. Additionally, 13 students received BTech (Honours) degrees this year.

The ceremony also recognised outstanding academic and research performances through the presentation of prestigious medals and awards.

Riya Arora was awarded the President’s gold medal and the Institute silver medal in BTech (Computer Science and Engineering) for her exceptional all-round performance. Vaibhav Kesharwani received the Director’s gold medal for his outstanding contributions to academics and leadership.

Bhavya received the Institute gold medal for scholastic excellence. Silver medals went to Eshaan, Bishwadeep Purkayastha, Raj Singh Bani, Lakhan Dharamvir Gupta, Arush Samadhia, Keshav Verma, Yashashvi Trivedi, Nikhil Tyagi, Praveen Kumar, Vanshika Gupta, and Bhavya. Aishal Gupta won the Rani Gonsalves Memorial Medal, Akshat Sharma the Ms. Kiran Bala Arora Award, and several others were recognised for academic excellence.

As a highlight, NBCC (India) Limited Awards were presented to three top-performing BTech students in Civil Engineering, acknowledging their excellence and promise in the field of sustainable infrastructure development.
