Mumbai AQI Level Today, Weather News Live Updates: Mumbai woke up to haze on Tuesday (October 21), a day after Diwali, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with the forecast stating the skies will become clearer towards afternoon in the city and the suburbs. Several parts of the city recorded air quality index (AQI) in the ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday, with the Air Quality Early Warning System showing the highest reading of 341 at IMD Colaba station at 5 am. A ‘very poor’ AQI was also recorded in Nandadeep Garden-Bandra Traffic Junction (313), Bapista Garden Mazagaon (305) early today.

Owing to bursting of firecrackers and slowing down of wind patterns as winter nears, the air quality index (AQI) in Mumbai plummeted severely, with the Air Quality Early Warning System for Mumbai showing a reading of 217 early morning, marking a massive spike from 187 recorded on Monday. This is the worst recorded AQI since the monsoon withdrawal on October 10.

Public advisory: With air quality worsening, it is advised to wear masks and stay indoors as much as possible to avoid exposure to toxic air. Health experts recommend avoiding outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, or exercising, as fine particulate pollutants can enter the lungs and bloodstream. “We have already asked the builders and contractors involved in real estate projects to start sprinkling water at their premises to prevent dust displacement. At present, monitoring is underway, and on-ground action will be taken up soon,” a NIAS official said.
