I knew my stomach pain was cancer, but doctors misdiagnosed, it's stage 4 now: Nafisa Ali

Veteran actress and politician Nafisa Ali Sodhi, known for her charming on-screen presence, recently shared a personal and inspiring chapter of her life, Nafisa who was diagnosed with stage for 4 peritoneal cancer back in 2018, is now undergoing chemotherapy and for her fans on Instagram she has shared her beautiful picture, capturing her journey through treatment.

Cancer’s silent onset

Cancer is a notorious disease that mimics symptoms that might be related to other kinds of ailments. Peritoneal cancer, though rare but is quite aggressive form of cancer that affects the lining of the abdomen. Back in 2018, when Nafisa suddenly started to feel uncomfortable, having sudden abdomen pains as well. In her interview with Fit Tak, Nafisa talked about how her gut feeling was always right about having cancer, in her words, “I knew my stomach pain was cancer, but doctors were not able to diagnose and this led to stage 4” she told Fit Tak. She has also spoken about how she was misdiagnosed in her earlier stages, instead of cancer, doctors told her it was Tuberculosis. In 2019, she was declared cancer-free but last month, Nafisa took a bold step and updated on her Instagram about her cancer bouncing back.

Cancer is curable if detected early: Signs to pay attention to

The struggle for a diagnosis

Despite feeling constantly full of energy, Nafisa began experiencing symptoms that didn’t feel right! When she first sought medical help, she was given a diagnosis that didn’t sit well with her. “I came back to Delhi after two months, and I told my doctor, ‘I don’t agree with your diagnosis. There has to be something wrong with me,’” Nafisa recalls. “I became very upset. I actually cried in front of the doctor and said, ‘I am the last person who goes to the doctor, and if I have come repeatedly, you have to take it seriously.’Within days, Nafisa developed severe pain near her appendix. “I told the doctor, ‘I’ve got appendicitis, and all of you have diagnosed me wrong.’ That’s when the doctors finally sat up and took notice, Nafisa told in her interview with Fit Tak.

What is Peritoneal cancer

As the name suggests, peritoneal cancer starts in the Peritoneum, a thin layer of tissue lining inside the abdomen and it covers most of the abdominal organs. Its early symptoms are vague and non specific, such as bloating, weight loss and digestive issues, which often makes it difficult to detect early. Of all the treatment options its diagnosis require CT scans, biopsies and sometimes even surgery to confirm the presence of it.

The physical toll of cancer treatment

Throughout her career, Nafisa has been an advocate of fitness and holistic well-being, she believes that maintaining physical health plays a crucial role in the body’s ability to withstand illness and treatment.Cancer is a dangerous disease, no doubt. For most cancer patients, maintaining a positive state of mind is difficult, but Nafisa’s approach to managing these challenges emphasises gentle fitness routine tailored to the patient’s energy levels, combined with a healthy and balanced diet that supports the immune system and overall health. Inclusion of practices such as yoga and meditation, Nafisa advocates for a holistic approach, not that that it sustains physical strength but also fosters mental calm and maintains a emotional balance.

A beacon of hope

Of all things wrong, one needs to find something to cling their hope to and for Nafisa, sharing her inspiring journey with her fans and people that love her is the one thing that keeps her going. Priortising regular screenings, and embracing fitness as a tool for resilience. As she continues her cancer journey with grace and courage, Nafisa remains an inspiring beacon of hope.
