Stock market holiday today: Will NSE and BSE remain open or closed on November 5 for Guru Nanak Jayanti? Check details

As nation gears up to celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti, people are left wondering if the stock markets will operate on Wednesday. So, notably, trading across India’s stock exchanges will remain suspended today, November 5, as both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) observe a holiday for Guru Nanak Jayanti.According to the exchanges’ official trading calendar, the holiday is listed under Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev. All market segments—including equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, and currency derivatives—will remain closed for the day.Normal operations will resume on the next working day, Thursday, November 6, as both exchanges follow a Monday-to-Friday trading schedule and remain closed on weekends and declared holidays.Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. Celebrated as Gurpurab or Prakash Utsav, the day is observed with prayers, processions, and community service. This year marks the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, born in 1469 at Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi—now known as Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. The next and final trading holiday for the year will fall on December 25 (Christmas), in addition to the normal scheduled holidays on Saturday and Sunday.
