'Tensions peaked after he damaged property': US cops on Indian techie's ties with roommate; to probe if he authored online posts

HYDERABAD: Police in California’s Santa Clara Thursday issued a search warrant to verify whether an online post alleging “racial discrimination” was authored by software engineer Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 32-year old from Telangana’s Mahbubnagar district who was shot dead by police on Sept 3. The post appeared eight hours before the shooting.Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) confirmed it was aware of the post attributed to Nizamuddin, in which he spoke of “racial discrimination” and blamed “white supremacy” for losing his job. The SCPD probe also covers the “officer-involved in the shooting.”As per SCPD, officers had responded to an emergency call about a stabbing at Nizamuddin’s residence on Eisenhower Drive. They claimed they found him armed with a knife sand attacking his roommate. One of the officers shot him after he allegedly refused to drop the weapon.

Do you believe that racial discrimination played a role in Mohammed Nizamuddin’s actions before the shooting?

Techie’s final months being probed by cops

Nizamuddin had been employed through a thirdparty agency until his termination in Feb 2024.In a statement Thursday, police said he shared the residence with injured roommate and two other tenants. Relations with the roommate had reportedly soured in recent months over household issues. Tensions peaked in July when he allegedly damaged property after an argument. The dispute escalated when the landlord initiated eviction proceedings. On Aug 29, the victim testified in court in support of eviction, which police believe was a key trigger for the Sept 3 attack.

‘Racial hatred and discrimination’

In a recent post on social media Nizamuddin, had alleged that he was a victim of “racial hatred and discrimination”.“Today I decided to raise my voice against all odds. Enough is enough; white supremacy/racist white American mentality has to end,” Nizamuddin said in his LinkedIn post, in which he also alleged that he was subjected to workplace harassment, torture, wage fraud, wrongful termination, and obstruction of justice. Nizamuddin, who had been unemployed for the past year and a half, alleged that he faced racial hostility and a poor/ unacceptable environment at his previous company.“In addition to that, the company committed a salary fraud. I was not paid fairly, not in accordance with wage levels. They wrongfully terminated my employment. It did not end there. They continued their harassment and discrimination with the help of a racist detective and team,” he said.
