The Phase-11 police has arrested two members of a motorcycle theft gang and recovered stolen motorcycles from their possession.

The accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh and Manni Kumar, were reportedly involved in several theft incidents across Mohali and nearby areas.

A case was registered against them on October 23 under sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the BNS at the Phase-11 police station after they were found stealing a motorcycle. The duo were produced before the district court, which remanded them to one-day police custody for interrogation.

During questioning, the police recovered another stolen motorcycle based on their disclosure. After the police remand ended, both accused were produced in court again and subsequently sent to judicial custody in Ropar Jail.

According to the Station House Officer (SHO), a police team had set up a naka (checkpoint) when two men riding a motorcycle attempted to pass through. “They were stopped and asked to produce documents. When they failed to show ownership papers, they were questioned strictly. During interrogation, they confessed that the motorcycle was stolen,” the SHO said.

Police investigation revealed that Gurpreet Singh already faces a similar theft case registered at Mataur police station under the same BNS sections while Manni (Sunny) Kumar has a previous NDPS Act case registered at Sadar Kharar police station.

Police officials said further investigation is underway to trace the gang’s other members and identify the network behind the series of vehicle thefts in the region.
